Well, what a week for Midleton brand releases, and it doesn’t stop. Blakes of the Hollow recently announced a bottled in bond version of Powers Whiskey, distilled in 1964 at the Old John’s Lane Distillery, before it closed.

It was bottled at 40% in the 80s after ageing (16 years) in cask 4661, but stayed dormant in a screwcap bottle and was sold on that way. There was never a label put on it.
That changes now, with 160 of these bottles being labelled with the old Powers White Label design. They come in at 39.8% ABV, which technically doesn’t meet the Irish whiskey standard of 40%, but only losing 0.2% after roughly 40 years in a bottle is impressive.
Excited to see how this is received and what else Blakes of the Hollow might be hiding in their cellars!
