In the summer, Irish Distillers (the producers of Jameson) announced a brand new, airport exclusive, Jameson.

The press release states “we’ve known that good things come in threes ever since John Jameson set up his distillery on Bow Street in Dublin and introduced the world to triple-distilled Jameson Irish Whiskey.” this is true and the new Jameson is still triple distilled but now it’s triple casked. The original Jameson is matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and sherry casks. The new Jameson adds a finish in hand-selected casks seasoned with fortified wine from Malaga.

I was so disappointed when I found out this was an airport exclusive.. 2 days after I got back from my holiday.. Thankfully, I go to America for Thanksgiving and on my way it was there in ‘The Loop’ at Dublin Airport. €34 was the Duty Free price €52 for all other trips.

I gave it a day before opening, but I had to try it! Wow. What a whiskey. If someone had put this in front of me I would never, ever guess this was a 40% Jameson.

Nose (25/33)

The nose on this is immense. Very full bodied picking strong scents of dried fruits, Strawberries, vanilla and an almost meringue like sugariness.

Taste (26/34)

It’s a very inviting taste, the dried fruits and berries are there at the beginning with sugar syrup and then a light spice starts to come through the longer you hold it. You can really tell this was in an ex bourbon barrel from the wood spice and sugary sweetness and the dried fruits are classic sherry. I would like to explore some more malaga wine/malaga finished whiskies.

Finish (24/33)

Short to Medium finish with the spice, and definitely some lingering sweetness. The sweetness I wrote was like a sherry but there was something different there that’s not a general sweetness from sherry. Again I think I need to explore some more malaga products to figure it out.

Overall, I love this whiskey and I’ll be hoping they have it at Logan on my way back! I really hope they release it to the general public as this would be a great Irish whiskey to introduce people to. It didn’t last long! 🙂

Score

76/100 – solid whiskey, with a good price tag, room for improvement but a great entry to Irish Whiskey

Please let me know on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter if you’ve tried it and agree or disagree and share your notes.
