This blend is based on peated Islay malts, and boasts being the only blend in the world to use a rare peated whisky from Glenturret, Scotland’s oldest working distillery.

It’s a budget blend so it has a lot of competition in that area. At £15 for a full bottle, I don’t know how you couldn’t give it a try!

Nose (20/33)

Surprisingly, a very interesting nose. I get a lot of deep orange notes, almost like poached oranges. I get a little hint of cinnamon spice and then a bit of oakiness. Don’t find much smoke but if you take a drop in your hands and rub it together all it leaves is the strong peaty smell you would expect from the name.

Taste (20/34)

Very light tasting, at 40% you wouldn’t expect anything else really. There’s a strong taste of the grain here which could throw some newer whisky drinkers off, but it’s quite an easy drinker.

Finish (20/33)

Finish is medium to long, and where the smokiness shows its head. For drinkers used to smoke they won’t feel much, but anyone new to smokiness it should give a decent indication whether you like smoke or not. It leaves a lingering char taste on your tongue.

Score

60/100

Overall, it’s a decent whisky. I’m taking into consideration the fact it’s such an inexpensive whisky, it’s accessible to any drinker and it’ll definitely be something a bit different to explore in that range.

Please let me know on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter if you’ve tried it and agree or disagree and share your notes.

A budget blend built on peated Islay malts and a rare Glenturret, Smoky Black costs £15, so there is little reason not to try it.

[6
39,14,38,37,27
post-47","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-review","tag-blended-scotch","tag-budget","tag-malty","tag-peated","tag-scotch-whisky
["GET
